Dodgin/Goldie Street roundabout construction to begin next week
Council will begin construction on a new roundabout at the intersection of Dodgin and Goldie Streets on Monday 27 March.
Waratah-Wynyard Council will begin construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Dodgin and Goldie Streets next week.
The first stage is part of the ongoing implementation of the Wynyard Foreshore Environs Masterplan and is being installed to provide improved traffic management at the intersection.
Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh said the project would also improve the safety and efficiency of the junction.
“The junction has been known to be the site of delays during major events and also accidents in the past but the roundabout will give a higher level of efficiency and safety for motorists and pedestrians alike,” Mayor Walsh said.
“Just to be clear, and in response to past public feedback, this roundabout is not intended to introduce one-way traffic along Goldie Street to the west.”
Electronic signs are now on display for the benefit of motorists before the works commence on Monday 27 March.
The works are expected to take about 12 weeks to complete.
During that time one lane of traffic will remain open, but motorists may experience short delays.
“There will be traffic diversions in place and we also suggest using the Bass Highway and Reservoir Drive as an alternative route,” Mayor Walsh said.
“We ask for the public’s patience during this time as it may cause short-term disruption, but it will have a long-term benefit.”
