The Council can confirm that the owner of the dog has fully complied with the dangerous dog declaration requirements and accordingly the dog has been returned to the owner's care. The dog is now to be housed in a secure enclosure which has been provided on the property and appropriate warning signage has been erected.

COUNCIL STATEMENT CONCERNING RECENT INCIDENT INVOLVING A DOG
“The Council was informed of an incident involving an alleged dog attack at a Seabrook Road property on Monday morning and subsequent investigation established that a dog attack did occur causing serious injury to a person.
The Council has acted in accordance with its legal obligations under the Dog Control Act 2000 (s29) to declare the dog to be a dangerous dog, and it has been detained by the Council until such time as the requirements of the declaration have been complied with. These include housing the dog in a prescribed enclosure and the erection of suitable warning signage at the entrances to the premises. Under the Dog Control Act 2000, the Council cannot release a dangerous dog to its owner until these requirements have been satisfied.
In relation to the dogs health, Council advises that it has been assessed and treated by a veterinary surgeon and is currently receiving appropriate ongoing prescribed treatment. This will continue while the dog is held by the Council.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are the subject of an ongoing Police investigation and as such, the Council will not be providing any further comment”.

Nominations from organisations or individuals will be received until 5:00 pm on Friday 16 December 2016 for the following awards:
Citizen of the Year for Persons over the age of 27 years on Australia Day, 2017. Junior Citizen of the Year for Persons under the age of 27 years on Australia Day, 2017 and Community Event of the Year.

Nominations should be sent to the General Manager, PO Box 168, Wynyard. A Committee appointed by Council will assess the nominations and announcement of the winners will take place as part of Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2017.

5 October 2016 - UPDATE -Port Road Landslip Boat Harbour Beach5 October 2016
Urgent road realignment and drainage improvement works will commence on Thursday, 6 October 2016, as a response to a significant landslip impacting Port Road (near the lookout), Boat Harbour Beach.
As a result of these works, this section of the road will be closed to all traffic from 9 am to 3 pm from Monday 10 October 2016 to Friday 14 October 2016.
It is expected that the road realignment and drainage improvement works will be completed by 4 November 2016 (subject to weather conditions).
