Councils review waste services

The provision of waste services to the community is being reviewed by the Circular Head  and Waratah-Wynyard councils.

Both Councils are conducting a Waste Services Review which will inform a five-year waste strategy and the levels of service provided, with a focus on materials recovery, environmental compliance, education and cost efficiencies.

Some of the key areas being considered in the review include kerbside collection areas, how green waste is managed, how and when Council communicate about waste management and reducing contamination in recycling streams.

Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said the review would critically assess the way Council provides waste services to customers.“

Simply put, the purpose of the review is to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the community, while still providing value-for-

money services,” Mayor Quilliam said.  Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh said Council had faced a number of challenges with

the provision of waste services, which has seen mixed feedback within the community.“

The review gives us an opportunity to reassess the current state of waste provision and look at opportunities for improvement,” Mayor Walsh said.
