Wonders of Wynyard a finalist at National Tourism Awards

The Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition Centre will be representing Tasmania at the Australian Tourism Awards in Perth, WA this Friday.

The centre won the Visitor Information Services category at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards last November- in the category and was granted automatic entry into the Australian Awards.

Waratah-Wynyard Council Tourism Development Co-ordinator Rachael Hogge will be attending the awards along with Mayor Robby Walsh.

"To win the State Awards was a great achievement in itself- providing encouraging feedback and highlighting opportunities for continuous improvement," she said.

"To be able to go to the Australian Awards and represent Tasmania is truly a great honour".

"We will be flying the flag for Waratah-Wynyard Council. and we will be proud members of the Tasmanian contingent of finalists."

Over the last two years the Wonders of Wynyard has undertaken some major changes in staffing, retail strategies, marketing and promotion.

Ms Hogge said this has paid dividends with outstanding customer satisfaction reviews. increased profitability and greater visitor numbers.

"The awards process consists of a 12,500 word submission that covers five key business areas including Customer Service, Marketing Innovation, Sustainability, Community Engagement and Business Innovation," she said.

"It's an intensive process that examines all aspects of the business. You have to show innovation, and provide evidence of your successes and failures, and detail the learning outcomes from that process."
