Completion of ALRS project

14 June 2018

Waratah-Wynyard Council together with NRM North and Cradle Coast NRM has today celebrated the completion of the Agricultural Landscape Rehabilitation Scheme – Flowerdale Inglis River Group.

To celebrate the completion of the work, Council invited farmers and local suppliers to an afternoon Tea at the Waratah-Wynyard Council Chambers.

During the Agricultural Landscape Rehabilitation Scheme (ALRS) Council worked with 14 landholders across the lower Inglis and Flowerdale Rivers to rehabilitate the landscape following the June 2016 floods.

The project has seen more than 10,000 new stems planted, more than 7,000 tonnes of rock placed and 2.65km of fencing installed.

Barbara Alsop has been working with Council as the ALRS Project Officer and said she was very pleased with how it has gone.

“It’s been excellent to see the work that’s been done,” she said.

“We’ve had good cooperation from landowners, contractors and volunteers to have everything completed within the timeframe.

“While there are still some sites that need working on, it has certainly made a good start to improving our flood resilience for the future.”

Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh said it was great to recognise the completion of the rehabilitation works.

“I’d like to thank the landowners for their cooperation and the generosity of our local suppliers.

“I think it all looks really good and I’d like to commend Barbara and all others involved for their efforts in this project.”
