Inaugural meeting of the Waratah Community Board

7 June 2018

The inaugural meeting of the Waratah Community Board has been hailed a success after the group met for the first time at the Athenaeum Hall, Waratah on Saturday night.

Board members worked with consultant David Hammond before the meeting to outline expectations and then met with Councillors and community members who were in attendance.

At the meeting the Board adopted the Waratah Community Plan 2018 – 2021, which has also been formally adopted by Council, and the Waratah Community Board Charter.

Kevin Hyland was also elected as the interim Chair of the Board for the first 12 months, while Rosemary Dick was elected Deputy Chair.

The Board will give local leadership on decisions that affect local people and will work with Council to deliver the Waratah Community Plan 2018-21, and inform assets, services and programs delivered in Waratah.

Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh said the meeting was an important milestone for Waratah.

“It was great to hear the representatives around the table contributing and already coming up lots of creative ideas,” Mayor Walsh said.

“I can see by their enthusiasm that they’re the right people to be representing the community and I’m sure they will work well with Council over the next three years.”
